Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025
Top five teams to watch in Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025

India won its first-ever medal at the team championships in the last edition.
The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025 will undoubtedly be the front line for emerging stars and seasoned champions with nations contending for continental dominance in Qingdao, China. With China defending its title, it has a team in transition in a field full of challengers capable of ending its dominance.
Here’s a closer look at the favourites for this edition of Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships:
China
China, the two-time defending champions, arrive with a mix of youth and experience. However, the team is in transition and will miss World No. #1 Shi Yuqi, who is ruled out. In his absence, Zhu Xuanchen lead the men’s singles. The women’s singles will showcase Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei. Their doubles strength remains strong, with Li Hongyi & Bao Lijingin mixed doubles. China are grouped with Chinese Taipei and Singapore in Group A.
South Korea
The 2023 runners-up return with a squad skilled in doubles. Cho Geon-Yeop/Park Sang-Yong and Jin Yong/Na Sung-Seung make a strong men’s doubles team. Sim Yu-jin (WS) and Cho Geon-Yeop (MS) provide consistency in singles. Korea’s strength comes from their structured playstyle, tactical flexibility, and a history of excelling in team events.
Their Group D match against India will be crucial for quarter-final placements. After pushing China to the limit in the 2023 final, Korea can still create surprises. Korea are placed in Group D with India and Macau.
Japan
Japan, winners of the first edition in 2017, have a strong team ready to compete for the title. Kenta Nishimoto (MS) and Tomoka Miyazaki (WS) lead the singles. Japan has solid doubles as well as they boast depth with Miyazaki/Sugiyama (WD) and Hiroki Nishi (XD). Japan’s main strength lies in technical precision, which includes structured play, sharp net control, and smooth defensive transitions.
Japan are in Group C with Thailand and Kazakhstan and with a strong history in team events, they perform well under pressure, making them serious contenders.
India
India enter the tournament with a strong squad as 2023 bronze medalists. Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy bring power to men’s singles. However, India will miss PV Sindhu, who is unavailable due to a hamstring injury. The former world No. #1 men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, will dominate in doubles.
Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly will compete in women’s doubles, while Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath will play mixed doubles. India are in Group D with South Korea and Macau.

Malaysia
Malaysia, who are coached by the legendary Rexy Mainaky, can be a potential upsetter in this tournament, and with Leong Jun Hao (MS) and Goh Soon Huat (MD) in the wings, the team can upset or two. While their ranking doesn’t suit that of the top seeds, Malaysia are quite strong when it comes to an aggressive style of play and tricky tactics.
They face a tough challenge in Group B with Indonesia and Hong Kong.
