PV Sindhu will next face world no.1 An Se Young.
India’s campaign at the China Masters 2025 got a big boost on Day 3 as PV Sindhu and the top men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty powered into the quarter-finals.
A two-time Olympic medallist, Sindhu bounced back brilliantly at Shenzhen Arena after a disappointing outing at the Hong Kong Open last week.
Facing sixth-ranked Thai shuttler Pornpawee Chochuwong, Singh—world No. 14 in the world—made a flying start, leading 11-4 at the mid-game break. She maintained the lead to take the first game 21-15.
The second game saw strong efforts from the Pornpawee making it 11-10 at the interval but Sindhu quickly shifted the gears to repeat the same scoreline of 21-15 and seal the match in 41 minutes.

Hoping to be on her way to a first title of the season, Sindhu will next face Olympic champion An Se Young of South Korea in the quarter-finals. The challenge, however, is daunting as the world No. 1 holds a flawless 7-0 head-to-head record against the Indian.
However, Sindhu is confident this week. “I am happy with the win, and it was very important for me from the beginning to be alert and give my 100 per cent. She (Chochuwong) is a top player.
“I played her at the Indonesia Open and that was a hard match. After winning the first game today, I was much more alert in the second,” she said in the post-match interview to BWF.
Meanwhile, in men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag put on a dominant show once again facing the Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Hsiang-chieh and Wang Chi-lin.
The world No. 9 Indians, up against the world No. 21 pair, wrapped up a commanding 21-13, 21-12 win in just 33 minutes.
The pair will next meet the home heroes Ren Xiang Yu and Xie Haonan (world No. 30) in the quarter-finals. Given the rankings Satwik-Chirag will be the favourites to win the match.
Earlier in the tournament, India’s men’s singles campaign ended with Lakshya Sen’s exit, while the mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also bowed out in the round of 16.
