The Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the schedule for the Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 on Monday. The Biannual team events will unfold from April 27 to May 5 in Chengdu, China.

In the Thomas Cup, the men’s world team championship, all eyes will be on defending champions India as they seek to defend their stunning win over Indonesia in the 2022 final.

The Indian contingent, led by world no. 1 doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, as well as singles stars like HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, and Kidambi Srikanth, have been drawn in Group C. They will open their campaign against Thailand on April 27, followed by clashes with England on April 29 and the mighty Indonesia on May 1.

The Indian women’s team, fresh off a historic gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships, have booked their spot in the Uber Cup, the women’s world team championship. Placed in Group A, the young Indian squad will face Canada on April 27, Singapore on April 28, and the formidable Chinese team, winners of a record 15 Uber Cup titles, on April 30.

The top two teams from each of the four groups in both events will advance to the quarterfinals scheduled for May 2 and 3, with the finals set for May 5.

Notably absent from the Indian women’s team are two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, the top-ranked doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, and Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly. Instead, India will field a youthful contingent featuring 17-year-old national champion Anmol Kharb, Ashmita Chaliha, and Tanvi Sharma, among others.
