The BWF Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 group stage draw will be held on March 18 at 15:00 local time (08:00 UTC), 12:30 PM IST, determining the groups for badminton’s premier men’s and women’s team competitions.

The draw comes with significant late changes to the participating teams. Germany’s men’s team and France’s women’s team have withdrawn from the tournament, with Finland and Spain replacing them, respectively.

Finland accepted the invitation for the Thomas Cup as the next highest-ranked European team, while Spain took France’s Uber Cup spot after higher-ranked teams Scotland and Germany declined.

The 34th edition of the Thomas Cup and 31st edition of the Uber Cup will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3, 2026, hosted by Badminton Denmark and organized by the BWF.

Thomas Cup seedings and contenders

Defending champions China lead the Thomas Cup seedings with 390,513 ranking points, followed by Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and France completing the top five. France’s fifth seeding represents a historic achievement following their 2026 European Men’s Championships victory over Denmark.

France’s squad features No. 5 Christo Popov, No. 8 Alex Lanier, No. 17 Toma Junior Popov in singles, and the Popov brothers alongside Eloi Adam/Leo Rossi in doubles. Denmark, seeded sixth, boasts No. 3 Anders Antonsen and Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

Indonesia enters with a formidable lineup including Jonatan Christie and Alwi Farhan in singles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in doubles. India, seeded eighth, features Lakshya Sen leading the charge alongside Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, England, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Algeria, and Finland complete the 16-team Thomas Cup field.

Uber Cup field

Defending champions China top the Uber Cup seedings alongside Asian champions Korea, Japan, and Chinese Taipei. European champions Bulgaria made history by qualifying for the first time, joined by Denmark, Ukraine, and Turkey from Europe.

Indonesia’s women’s team features Putri Kusuma Wardani and Thalita Yovela Soeprapto in singles, with strong doubles pairs including Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari. India, seeded eighth, will rely on PV Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, and their doubles contingent.

Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa, Canada, Australia, Spain, and France (replaced by Spain after withdrawal) round out the Uber Cup qualifiers.
