Punjab gears up to host Senior National Basketball Championships 2023 from December 3-10

Home side are the reigning champions in men’s section.

The Senior National Basketball Championships 2023 for men’s and women’s is scheduled to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab from December 3 to 10, 2023. The tournament will be held at Village Gudde in Ludhiana, where 32 teams from across the country will compete for the coveted trophy.

Punjab men’s team will enter the tournament as the defending champions, having won the title in the last edition by defeating Tamil Nadu in a thrilling final. The team will also be high on confidence after clinching the gold medal at the recently concluded 37th National Games held in Goa from October 23 to 28, 2023. The team secured their victory by defeating Tamil Nadu in the final with a score of 105-103.

The BFI, which was formed in 1950, is the governing body of basketball in India. They organize the Senior National Basketball Championship every year, which is one of the oldest and prestigious basketball tournament in the country. The first Indian National Championship for men was held in 1934 in New Delhi, while the women’s championship started in 1950.

Indian Railways women’s team will be the defending champions in the women’s section, having won the title last year by beating Telangana 131-82. The team will face tough competition from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi who have a rich history of producing talented basketball players.
