India enjoyed another productive day in athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2026 (CWG 2026), highlighted by Gulveer Singh’s historic silver medal in the men’s 10,000m, while Vishal TK advanced to the men’s 400m semi-finals.
High jumper Pooja Singh concluded her impressive debut campaign, and Rajesh Ramesh bowed out in the opening round of the men’s 400m.

Gulveer etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Indian man to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the 10,000m. The national record holder clocked 27:49.78 to finish second behind Australia’s Ky Robinson (27:48.93) and with David Mullarkey (27:50.28) taking bronze.
Gulveer remained with the leading pack throughout before producing a sensational final-lap sprint to overtake Olympic medallist Edwin Kurgat of Kenya and seal silver.
The race also marked the first time since 1986 that runners from Kenya and Uganda failed to win a medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games.

In the men’s 400m, national record holder Vishal TK progressed to the semi-finals after finishing second in Heat 6 with a time of 46.49 seconds, earning automatic qualification. His performance placed him 14th overall across the heats and secured a place in the last 16.
Fellow Indian Rajesh Ramesh finished third in Heat 3 in 47.43 seconds but ended 25th overall, falling short of a semi-final berth.
19-year-old Pooja Singh brought her maiden Commonwealth Games campaign to a close in the women’s high jump final.
Competing in cold, wet, and windy conditions at Scotstoun Stadium, the Indian national record holder recovered from an opening miss at 1.72m before clearing 1.77m on her second attempt. However, she was unable to clear 1.82 m in three attempts, which ended her campaign.
Having earned her place in Glasgow by setting a new national record of 1.93m earlier this season, Pooja concluded a promising Commonwealth Games debut, offering valuable exposure at the highest level.
The Indian athletics contingent will hope to add to its medal tally as competition continues across the remaining track and field events in Glasgow.
