Two more medals were added to India’s tally on Tuesday
The Indian contingent enjoyed another satisfactory day at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning two medals and securing three more.
Harjinder Kaur put on a stellar display to clinch a silver medal in the women’s 69 kg section—the nation’s seventh medal in weightlifting.
This was later followed by a historic men’s 10,000m final race, with Gulveer Singh pocketing a silver medal—India’s first-ever podium finish in the event at the CWG.
The boxing contingent secured at least three podium finishes, in addition to Lovlina Borgohain’s medal, which had been assured prior to the commencement of the Games.

Preeti Pawar was way too good for Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland in the Women’s 54kg quarterfinal, securing a comfortable unanimous victory.
Priya then took down home favourite Niamh Mitchell 4-1 (split decision) in Women’s 60 kg, in what was a clash that fluctuated from one end to the other. In the Men’s 55kg event, Jadumani Singh’s flair was on full display, as he defeated Zambian Mwengo Mwale by unanimous decision.
Parveen mounted a late comeback against Sacha Hickey of England in the Women’s 65kg section, but it couldn’t prevent a 2-3 defeat.
In the final boxing fixture of the day, Scotland’s Robert McNulty played a smart game and controlled the tempo to secure a unanimous victory against Kapil Pokhariya in the Men’s 90kg quarterfinal.
Medal Events in which Indian athletes contested on 28th July
Harjinder Kaur upgraded her bronze medal from the previous edition in Birmingham, commendably achieving success in all six lifts on the day. She lifted a total of 227kg (101kg + 126kg) to clinch the second spot.
While she did initially break the games’ record in both sections, it was later shattered by junior world record holder Charlotte Simoneau of Canada, who effortlessly posted splits of 108kg and 132kg.

Earlier, Nirupama Devi failed to achieve success in any of her three clean and jerk attempts (all weighing 123kg) in the women’s 63kg final. While she did lift 93kg in the snatch to occupy the fifth spot, she will, unfortunately, go home with a ‘DNF’ to her name.
India’s second medal of the day will end up as one of the most memorable ones of the edition, as Gulveer Singh clocked a time of 27:49.78 to clinch silver in the men’s 10,000 m event.
In challenging rainy conditions, he managed to stay close to the leading pack throughout the race. In the last couple of laps, he accelerated in a stunning manner, giving eventual gold medalist Australian Ky Robinson a run for his money.
In the women’s high jump final, which was interrupted by bad weather conditions, Pooja finished at the bottom among eight participants. She cleared 1.72 m and 1.77 m on the second attempt but was unable to clear 1.82m.

In aquatics, with Sajan Prakash failing to qualify from the men’s 50m butterfly heats, the men’s 50m freestyle S13 race presented the only medal event of the day with Indian contenders. RVVBK Budigina (25.68) and Imam Ali (28.28) finished sixth and eighth, respectively.
Commonwealth Games 2026: Updated Indian medal tally after 28th July
India has again dropped to the ninth spot in the medals table. The country now has a total of 12 medals—two gold, seven silver, and three bronze. Out of these, seven have been won in weightlifting (one gold), four in athletics and para athletics (one gold), and one in para powerlifting.
What to expect from Indian contingent on 29th July?
A maximum of fourteen medal events are lined up for the nation on the sixth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Sanjana will be the sole weightlifter in action in the Women’s 77kg final.
In athletics, the men’s long jump final is set to be the marquee event, with Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Sathyanathan both having qualified.
Manpreet Kaur will be in contention in the women’s shot put final, and Parul Chaudhary in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final.
In para-athletics, Sagar Thayat and Devendra Kumar will be gunning for glory in the men’s discus throw F42-44/F61-64. Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath have a chance to finish on the podium in the Men’s 100m T47 event.

Wednesday also marks the final day for swimming. Aryan Nehra is set to be in action in the men’s 1500m freestyle final.
Sajan Prakash and Aneesh Gowda would be looking to qualify from their respective men’s 200m freestyle heats, with the summit race scheduled later in the day.
Suyash Jadhav and Chaitanya Kulkarni will be participating in the Men’s 50m Freestyle S7 Final, with a solitary heat scheduled for lane allocation.
A total of six boxers would be looking to add to the tally of four medals assured in the sport in their respective quarter-final fixtures.
Sakshi Chaudhary will take on Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland in the women’s 51 kg category. Arundhati Choudhary will be up against New Zealander Morgan Henderson in women’s 70kg.
Sachin will face Treasure Moremi of Botswana in the men’s 60kg quarter-final. Ankush would be looking to continue his run in the Men’s 80 kg event against Jade Micock of Seychelles.
Narender would be looking to seal a medal when he takes on Samoa’s Michael Seko in the men’s 90 kg+ section. Finally, Jaismine is scheduled to face Englishwoman Elise Glynn in the Women’s 57kg category.
