Gyaneshwari Yadav bags silver in 53kg weightlifting event; India claims fifth medal at CWG 2026

Gyaneshwari Yadav secured India’s fifth medal at the ongoing Glasgow Games.
Gyaneshwari Yadav secured a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday, July 27. The gold went to Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih, while Canada’s Rebeka Groulx clinched the bronze medal.
The 23-year-old Indian lifter, making her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow, produced one of her finest performances. She registered successful lifts of 82 kg, 85 kg and 88 kg across her three attempts in snatch.
She was locked in a battle with Didih for the top prize. However, the Nigerian produced a superb lift of 93 kg, which was both a Games record and a Commonwealth record. This made her favourite for gold heading into the second round.
