Commonwealth Games 2026 (CWG) Day 4 Live Updates: Bindyarani Devi, Murali Sreeshankar & others vie for medals

Indian athletes have begun to excel in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. Four members of the Indian contingent have already bagged medals, including three weightlifters on Sunday.

Mirabai Chanu has undoubtedly been the star of the tournament so far, clinching gold in the women’s 48 kg event, marking her third consecutive gold medal in the tournament. She also broke the CWG record in both snatch and clean and jerk.

Rishikanta Singh added to the tally with a silver in the men’s 60 kg event, setting a CWG record in snatch with a lift of 121 kg. Raja Muthupandi added another silver medal in the men’s 65 kg event.

Earlier, para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar bagged a bronze in the men’s heavyweight event, becoming the first Indian para athlete to clinch a medal at the Glasgow Games.

India can expect to add more medals to their tally on Day 4. Star powerlifter Bindyarani Devi, a silver medallist in the Birmingham 2022 Games, will be one of those vying for gold in the women’s 58 kg event. Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, high jump star Tejaswin Shankar, and others will also be looking to compete for the top prizes.
