Saikhom Mirabai Chanu earned India’s third medal at CWG 2026.

A moment of history for the Indian weightlifting ‘giant, Mirabai Chanu, as she clinched a gold medal in the 48kg category on Day 3 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

Mirabai was a class apart in her proceedings as she outclassed every other athlete in snatch, lifting an incredible 85 kg, which is an Olympic record.

The second-best lift from Malaysian weightlifter Irene Jane Henry was 77 kg, which was less than Mirabai’s successful attempt, conveying volumes of her dominance in the competition.

Notably, her first attempt at 82kg in snatch couldn’t be executed; however, she bettered it with successful attempts at 82kg and 85kg.
