Indian athletes have had a fruitful outing in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. The country’s athletes have won 39 medals so far, including 13 golds, 17 silvers, and nine bronzes, sitting fourth in the overall standings.

Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won the first medal at the Glasgow Games, clinching bronze in the men’s heavyweight event. Weightlifting has been one of the most successful disciplines, with eight members in the contingent clinching medals at the tournament.

Mirabai Chanu etched her name in the record books, winning her third consecutive CWG gold in the women’s 48 kg event. Rishikanta Singh, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Raju Muthupandi, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Harjinder Kaur, and Lovepreet Singh clinched silvers, while Bindyarani Devi added a bronze.

The boxing contingent has been equally successful, with 10 pugilists entering the final bouts in their respective events. Judo has been another surprise medal-winning sport for India, with Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh becoming the first Indian CWG gold medallists in the sport.

India currently trail Australia (138 medals), England (88 medals), Canada (54 medals), Scotland (34 medals), and Nigeria (30 medals) in the overall standings.

India’s most successful day at the Glasgow Games came on Day 9 on Saturday, August 1. 16 Indian athletes and counting clinched medals across athletics, boxing, and other sports.

Soman Rana and Shubham Paul opened the day with a brilliant outing in the men’s shot put F57 event, clinching gold and silver respectively. Rana managed a best effort of 13.40m, while Paul managed 13.28m. Cameroon’s Cedric Idriss Lekezo Azamdzi won bronze with 12.57m.

Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran secured another double podium finish for India in athletics, clinching silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s triple jump event. Chithravel finished second with 16.58m, while Thirumaran finished third with 16.52m. The gold went to Jamaica’s Jordan Scott with 16.72m.

Preeti Pawar became the first boxing medallist on Day 9, beating Canada’s Scarlett Savannah Delgado to win gold in the women’s 54 kg event. Jasmine Lamboria also won gold in the women’s 57 kg event, beating Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh. Jadumani Singh had to settle for silver after losing to Australia’s Jye Dixon in the men’s 55 kg final.

Sakshi Chaudhary and Arundhati Choudhary won golds in the women’s 51 kg and 70 kg events, respectively. Priya Ghangas also clinched the top prize in the women’s 60 kg event. Among the male pugilists, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won golds in the men’s 60 kg and men’s 80 kg events, respectively. Narender Berwal bagged a silver in the men’s 90+ kg event, losing to England’s Damar Thomas in the final.

Gulveer Singh won his second medal at the Glasgow Games, clinching India’s first-ever gold in the men’s 5000m final. Judoka Unnati Sharma added another bronze, beating South Africa’s Skye Knoester in the bronze medal match in the women’s 63 kg event.

In total, India have won 16 medals on Day 9 – eight golds, five silvers, and three bronzes.
