India’s Jadumani Singh eyes gold in men’s 55kg boxing at Commonwealth Games 2026

India’s Jadumani Singh assured himself of at least a bronze medal by entering the semi-finals in the men’s 55 kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old pugilist, however, made it clear that his mission is far from over as he aims to clinch a gold medal for his nation at the Glasgow Games.
“I will do even better in the upcoming semi-finals and get the gold for India,” the boxer told ANI after the match.

Jadumani secured a unanimous decision victory over Zambia’s Mwale Mwengo in the men’s 55 kg quarter-finals, sealing a place in the last four. In the CWG, both losing semi-finalists receive a bronze medal, and Jadumani ensured that India adds at least one medal to its tally.
The Indian boxer controlled the match from the opening bell by using his quick footwork, winning the first round 4-1 on the judges’ scorecard. He controlled the bout from the second round onwards. Three judges scored the match 30-27, and two scored it 29-28. As a result, Jadumani sealed a 5-0 unanimous decision win.
After the match, Jadumani credited the win to his uncle.
“Today it was a tough fight. But I knew that I had more power than him, but he used to punch more,” he said. “I will dedicate the medal to my uncle who has brought me here.”
Earlier in the event, Jadumani had beaten Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman to progress to the quarter-finals.

India’s medal tally grows
Along with Jadumani, fellow boxer Lovlina Borgohain has also assured herself of a medal in the ongoing Glasgow Games. She received a bye and progressed to the women’s 75 kg semi-finals, where she will face Tuvalu’s Tarona Taafaki.
Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Panwar is also assured of at least a bronze medal after beating Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde 5-0 in the women’s 54 kg quarter-finals.

Seven weightlifters have also clinched medals in the Commonwealth Games 2026. This includes Mirabai Chanu, who bagged her third successive CWG gold medal, winning the women’s 48 kg title.
So far, India have won 12 medals at the CWG 2026, which include two golds, seven silvers, and three bronzes. The country can add more to this, with several medal events taking place on Day 6 on July 29.
