India’s Rishikanta Singh won a silver medal in the men’s 60 kg weightlifting event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sunday. The 28-year-old finished second in the overall standings with a total lift of 264 kg.
The gold medal went to Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdan, while Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Mboya clinched the bronze medal at the SEC Armadillo.

The 28-year-old weightlifter from Manipur was superb in snatch, registering successful lifts of 116 kg, 119 kg, and 121 kg. His last effort broke the Commonwealth Games record in snatch, which previously stood at 120 kg.
Rishikanta’s record-breaking showing in snatch put him at the top of the overall standings going into clean and jerk. Locked in a head-to-head battle with Malaysia’s Kasdan, Rishikanta made a fine start, registering a successful lift of 143 kg.
The Indian lifter then failed in his attempt to lift 148 kg. He was forced to increase the weight for his final attempt to 151 kg. However, he failed to complete a successful lift and had to settle for a silver medal.

How much will Rishikanta Singh earn as prize money?
Despite finishing second, Rishikanta earned India their second medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Para powerlifter Jhandu Singh had opened the medal tally on Friday by winning bronze in the men’s heavyweight event.
Other than claiming his maiden CWG medal, Rishikanta is also set to receive INR 20 lakhs in prize money, in line with the Scheme of Cash Awards to Medal Winners in International Sports Events managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
According to this scheme, athletes who win a silver medal in the open category of the Commonwealth Games earn prize money of INR 20 lakh. Meanwhile, gold medallists will be awarded INR 30 lakh, while bronze medallists earn INR 10 lakh. The prize money is the same for both able-bodied and para athletes.
