India’s Neeraj Chopra sealed a place in the men’s javelin throw final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 30. The two-time Olympic medallist finished fifth overall in the qualification round at the Scotstoun Stadium with a best effort of 79.61m.

Neeraj, meanwhile, will enter the final as one of the favourites to clinch the gold medal. The 28-year-old won the javelin throw title at the Gold Coast 2018 Games, but he was forced to withdraw from the Birmingham 2022 Games due to an injury. He will now look to regain his title and vie for a second CWG gold.

His main competition will come from South Asian Championships gold medallist Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage of Sri Lanka, who topped the qualification standings with a best throw of 82.84m.

Neeraj’s arch-rival Arshad Nadeem, who is the current Olympic gold medallist, will also be one of those vying for a medal. The Pakistani athlete secured qualification with a seventh-place finish, registering a best throw of 78.63m.
