6 players who shocked by going unsold in the IPL 2024 auction

Only 72 players got lucky in the IPL 2024 auction to attract bids from the franchises.
It was an exciting event in Dubai yesterday when all ten franchises held the pedal, and there were some players that triggered the bidding war among those teams. IPL 2024 auction concluded with a number of millionaires. Mitchell Starc broke the all-time record and became the highest-paid cricketer at the auction.
Starc was bought for a price of INR 24.75 crores by Kolkata Knight Riders. It was fair to say that big names made a lot of money. But there were a few that didn’t find a buyer, which surprised a number of fans. Here we will talk about six big names that went unsold at IPL 2024 auction.
Here are the 6 players who shocked by going unsold in the IPL 2024 auction
1. Steve Smith :

Steve Smith is a part of the “fab four” which has the likes of Kane Williamson, Joe Root, and Virat Kohli. He is regarded as one of the best batsmen in modern cricket. He has played 103 IPL matches and has scored 2485 runs. He is also in good form at the moment, but surprisingly, he didn’t get any buyer at the auction. He entered the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore.
2. Phil Salt :

Just a few hours after the conclusion of IPL 2024 auction, Phil Salt smashed his second consecutive T20I ton and became the first Englishman to score two T20I hundreds. Salt is with English team, who are on the tour of West Indies, and he has scored 283 runs in four innings at an average and strike rate of 97.67 and 187.82, but he was unable to attract IPL franchises at IPL 2024 auction.
3. Jason Holder :

Jason Holder is one of the most prominent names in world cricket at the moment. West Indian all-rounder has been a pretty consistent player in both departments. All-rounders always have the tendency to attract big money, but he went unsold, which was a shock to many fans. Holder has played 46 IPL games and has taken 53 wickets at an economy rate of 8.81.
4. Michael Bracewell :

Michael Bracewell was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last season. But he was released by the franchise. Bracewell caught the attention of the world when he smashed New Zealand’s third-fastest ODI ton against India in a chase where Shubman Gill scored a double ton. He played a handful of games in IPL 2023 but injuries forced him to sit out. But he couldn’t fetch any buyers in the recently concluded auction.
5. Karun Nair :

The only second Indian batter to score a triple century in test cricket, Karun Nair was also part of the IPL 2024 auction, but he went unsold. He is a pretty experienced middle-order batter. Nair has played 76 IPL matches and has scored 1496 runs at 23.75 with 10 half-centuries.
6. Sarfaraz Khan :

Sarfaraz Khan is a well-known name in Indian domestic circuit. He is a heavy scorer at the domestic level. But he is yet to establish himself in IPL. Sarfaraz has played 50 IPL matches and has scored 585 runs at an average of 22.50, but being an Indian middle-order batter, he was expected to get a deal. However, this will be the first time since 2015 (apart from 2017) that Sarfaraz will not be part of the IPL.
