Team India are on a tour in the West Indies for a multi-format series. Both teams are currently engaged in the two-match test series, while the visitors have already won the first test in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs. The second game is set to start on July 20 in Port of Spain. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series starting on July 27, while the five-match T20I series will take place after that.

The tour will conclude on August 13 (Sunday). The preparation for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup has already begun, with only two and a half months left to go. Team India will open their World Cup campaign with a game against five-time champion Australia on October 8 (Sunday) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The marquee clash between India and Pakistan will take place on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It has been learned that after being appointed Chairman of the Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar has not interacted with the Indian team and management until now.

Thus, he is set to travel to the West Indies to hold talks with head coach Rahul Dravid and Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. A BCCI source told PTI, "Currently Salil Ankola is in the West Indies but he will be back after the Test series gets over. Ajit will be joining the team before start of the white ball leg."

Ajit Agarkar will discuss the blueprint for the upcoming mega event. The discussion will also include a list of the core 20 players who will be on the radar for the upcoming event. They will also discuss the fitness of key players, including Jasprit Bumrah, and whether he will travel to Ireland or not. Notably, Bumrah has yet to get the green signal from the NCA. Meanwhile, it is also reported that VVS Laxman will travel with the Indian team to Ireland as interim coach while Dravid will be rested.
