Ishan Kishan was part of the India D squad for the Duleep Trophy 2024.

Wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan was missing from the first round of matches of the Duleep Trophy, which got underway on September 5.

Kishan was initially named in the India D squad, headed by middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer. Their first match of the tournament is against India C at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur.

The southpaw recently appeared in the Buchi Babu tournament in Tamil Nadu, where he marked his comeback to red-ball cricket with a terrific century. However, he couldn’t make his return to domestic cricket as he was ruled out of the first game in the Duleep Trophy 2024.

BCCI makes a statement on Ishan Kishan’s absence in Duleep Trophy 2024

The BCCI revealed that Kishan suffered a groin injury during the Buchi Babu tournament and hence missed the first round of the Duleep Trophy. Kerala’s Sanju Samson, who was not named in any of the four squads initially, has been named as Kishan’s replacement.

The board stated, “Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the ongoing All-India Buchi Babu Tournament. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his condition and working towards ensuring a swift recovery.

“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Sanju Samson as Kishan’s replacement in the India D squad.”

Further, batsman Suryakumar Yadav and speedster Prasidh Krishna are also unfit for the first round of games of this competition. Yadav suffered a sprain to his right thumb while fielding in the Buchi Babu tournament, while Krishna is nearing completion of his rehab following surgery for his left quadriceps tendon.

One positive news from the BCCI’s statement was that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is fit and has been cleared to play.
