Ben Stokes to undergo knee surgery after ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Ben Stokes hopes to recover in time for the Test tour of India in 2024.

England Test captain Ben Stokes has confirmed that he’ll undergo knee surgery to address the issues he has been having with this joint. He said that surgery will be performed after the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Ben Stokes has been struggling with a knee issue for at least 18 months and has recently been forced to play as a specialist batsman due to his body’s inability to withstand the rigors of bowling.

Ben Stokes indicated that he was considering surgery following this summer’s Ashes series, which he labored through in obvious pain, but instead elected to come out of ODI retirement and play in England’s ODI World Cup 2023 title defense in India.

With England out of the contention for semi-finals of the World Cup 2023, he is expected to undergo surgery before the end of the month and will aim to be able to lead his team on their Test tour of India in the new year.

I am having surgery after the World Cup: Ben Stokes hopes to be ready for a Test tour of India in 2024

The 32-year-old’s knee has been a long-standing issue, preventing him from bowling and limiting him to batting exclusively during the World Cup in India. England will play Australia in their next game on Saturday.

Stokes, speaking on the eve of his side’s clash with Ashes rivals Australia in Ahmedabad, said: “I am having surgery after the World Cup. I will hopefully be fine for the Test series (against India). When we go to those meetings we generally take a physio and doctor and they start talking. I just turn up, go to sleep, wake up and hope it is better.”

England’s first Test against India in Hyderabad will start on January 25, with the team expected to fly out to the United Arab Emirates for a warm-up camp two weeks earlier.
