IND vs ENG: Dhruv Jurel to retain his spot in test XI even if Rishabh Pant returns - Reports

Dhruv Jurel has impressed everyone with both bat and gloves so far.
Wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel seems to have solved India’s problem of backup keeper with his terrific batting display in the Ranchi test against England. Jurel scored 90 in the first innings and then went to play a match-winning knock of 39 runs in the second innings, which was more worth than a test century. India have tried out 3-4 options since Rishabh Pant’s massive accident, but now they seems to have find an answer.
Dhruv Jurel has made a significant impact and earned great praises from former cricketers and Jurel is now seen as integral part of the Indian squad in test cricket. Jurel will have a contest with Pant when tha latter will comeback after a long injury break. A few media reports have come suggesting that Jurel will not lose his place even when Pant makes a comeback and he is likely to be given role as a specialist batter.
Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant in same playing XI?
A BCCI source in anonymity has informed the Telegraph that Dhruv Jurel might be given a long run as a batter even when Pant makes his comeback. As quoted by The Telegraph, the source said, “You never know… Even after Rishabh Pant’s return, Jurel could still retain his place in the XI as a specialist batter. He has proved he can be an asset to the team just as a batter too.”
After the ongoing five-match test series against England, India’s next test assignment will be against Bangladesh in September. Pant most likely will be fit and make his test comeback by that time. Pant is currently preparing himself for the IPL 2024. Delhi Capitals management is still unsure if Pant will participate in the entire season.
Dhruv Jurel made his debut in Rajkot and scored 46 runs in his maiden test innings. Jurel has so far scored 175 runs in three test innings. On the other hand, Pant has played several memorable and match-winning knocks for India in test cricket. Pant is widely credited for his role in India’s historic test series win against Australia 2021, especially the Gabba test win.
