Dinesh Karthik appointed SA20 brand ambassador ahead of next season

Dinesh Karthik to work with fellow ambassador AB de Villiers in the next season of SA20.

Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has been roped in as the brand ambassador of South Africa’s premier T20 competition – SA20 on Monday (August 5). Karthik called time on his playing career after the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 tournament.

The 39-year-old former India international has extensive experience with franchise T20 cricket, having competed in the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008.

Throughout his 17-year IPL career, he has played for six teams. During this time, Karthik scored 4,842 runs at an average of 26.32 and a strike rate of 135.66. He has also grabbed 145 catches behind the wickets and stumped 37 batters.

Karthik last played for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup. By then, he had already begun his career in the commentary box. He has risen as one of the most likeable commentators, with not just his mastery of the game shining through, but also his distinct brand of comedy entertaining fans all over the world.

Speaking on the appointment of Dinesh Karthik as the League ambassador, Betway SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said: “We are thrilled to welcome DK as an ambassador for Betway SA20 Season 3. His exceptional cricketing talent and personality make him the perfect fit for our league and his involvement will undoubtedly elevate the League’s status globally and in India. Karthik will collaborate closely with fellow Betway SA20 ambassador AB de Villiers and the management team to grow the league’s fanbase and raise brand recognition in key strategic markets such as India and the United Kingdom.

The league has been electric in the first two seasons with some of the world’s best players on show and exciting young talent putting up their hands on the global stage. It’s a privilege to be associated with the Betway SA20 and I look forward to working with Graeme Smith and his team,” Karthik said in a video shared on SA20’s social accounts.
