England will host Australia for three T20Is, starting September 11.

England will be fielding three debutants, Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell and Jamie Overton, in the first T20I of the three-match series against Australia.

The opening game of the three-T20I series will be played on September 11 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. The T20I series will be followed by a five-match ODI series.

Australia are coming off a 3-0 whitewash over Scotland, while for England, this is their first T20I series since the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The Three Lions are in a transition period in their white-ball teams. Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali or Chris Jordan have been dropped. Moeen retired from international cricket after being dropped from the team.

This is the maiden call-up for Warwickshire spin-bowling all-rounder Jacob Bethell, while Cox has previously been part of the white-ball setup. Cox recently won the Hundred with Oval Invincibles.

Overton is a seam-bowling all-rounder who was added to the squad after captain Jos Buttler was ruled out of the T20I series due to a right calf injury. Overton will likely play as a specialist batsman as he continues his recovery from a back stress fracture. Phil Salt will lead England in Buttler’s absence.

England’s playing XI for 1st T20I against Australia:

  1. Phil Salt
  2. Will Jacks
  3. Jordan Cox
  4. Liam Livingstone
  5. Jacob Bethell
  6. Sam Curran
  7. Jamie Overton
  8. Jofra Archer
  9. Adil Rashid
  10. Saqib Mahmood
  11. Reece Topley

Test coach Brendon McCullum has been named England’s new white-ball coach, replacing Matthew Mott, who resigned after England’s semi-final exit at the T20 World Cup. However, McCullum will officially take charge early in 2025 with the tour of India. Marcus Trescothick will be the interim coach for the white-ball games against Australia.
