My father goes through twice the trauma i do: India all-rounder Ravi Ashwin

India all-rounder Ravi Ashwin has been the talking point amongst cricketing world after he was left out of WTC final XI.

Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has been a match-winner for Team India in the longer format. His absence in the World Test Championship Final playing XI against Australia at The Oval raised a few eyebrows. Despite being on the highest wicket-taker list in the WTC 2021-23 cycle, Indian Team management dropped him for the big WTC Final against Australia. Ashwin has always found himself among critics for involving too much and being an overthinker in the game. Ashwin in a recent interview with Indian Express has opened up about the trauma he and his family faces over the entire period of his cricket career. Ashwin is currently involved with Tamil Nadu Premier League.

Ashwin opens up about the trauma

Ravi Ashwin also revealed that his father goes through twice the trauma he does whenever such affairs or talk come up. Ashwin said, “The more I see it, the kind of trauma toll it takes on my family is incredible. My father has a heart problem and other issues. Every single game, every single day, something happens, he will call me. He is stressed, it’s very easy for me to go out and play because it is still in my control. For my father, it is not and he goes through double what I do. So looking at this in hindsight, everybody on the outside is irrelevant”

Ravi Ashwin was among the players who were considered for a leadership role in the Test format after Virat Kohli left the captaincy. Ashwin also opened up about the ‘overthinker’ tag that often gets fresh whenever he is considered for the leadership role. Ashwin is rated among one of the greats in spin bowling in the current era. Ashwin and Nathan Lyon have dominated the off-spin game after Graeme Swann retired in 2015. Ashwin has 474 wickets in 92 test matches for team India. India paid a heavy price for not fielding Ashwin in the World Test Championship Final at The Oval against Australia.
