Gautam Gambhir opens up on his relation with Virat Kohli after verbal spat in IPL 2023

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli were involved in a heated spat during a LSG vs RCB game in the IPL 2023.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League was probably the best season that the world witnessed in the history. There were a number of incredible games, last-over finishes, uncapped players performing well and big run chases. But apart from the glory, some unwanted events also happened during the tournament. The heated altercation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir during a game in Lucknow.

Both Indian cricket icons were involved in a heated exchange after the game which was separated by their teammates. That became the headlines after the 43rd game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants. Both were fined by the BCCI for their on-field action along with LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. It didn't stop there, there were some cryptic posts on social media from both sides. However, after two weeks of the IPL conclusion, the former Indian opener has come out and talked about his altercation with the former RCB captain.

It all started when LSG won a game in Bengaluru and Gambhir made a gesture of "finger on lips" towards the RCB fans at the stand. It carried into the game when RCB beat LSG in Lucknow. Virat first had a verbal exchange with LSG pacer Naveen. Later, Gambhir was seen taking away Kyle Mayers, who was having a chat with Virat after the game. It led to some ugly scenes that made headlines for various reasons.

However, Gautam Gambhir has opened up about that incidents during an interview with News 18. He said that it happened in the heat of the moment because no one want to lose. The LSG mentor stated, "My relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field, not off field. There’s nothing personal. They want to win as much as I do."

Furthermore, he highlighted that he had many fights during his career but those stayed on the cricket field not out of the ground. Gambhir said that every argument between two people should stay on the field. He concluded on his heated altercation with Virat and said that many said many things and some asked for interview for TRPs for a clarification. He stated, "The thing that has happened between two people doesn't need to be clarified."
