Gautam Gambhir said that Indian team will try to make the country proud and happy.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has dedicated the team’s victory over Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 to the Indian Armed Forces and the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Gambhir also thanked the Indian Army for Operation Sindoor.

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan have been severely affected. There has been a public demand by fans to stop all cricketing ties with Pakistan.

A few days ahead of the Asia Cup match, many fans urged the Indian team to boycott the game against Pakistan. The Indian players expressed their support during the match with a symbolic protest by refusing handshakes with Pakistan players after the victory. During the post-match presentation, skipper Suryakumar Yadav also dedicated the victory to the Indian Army and the Pahalgam victims.

During an interaction with Sony Sports, Gambhir thanked the Indian Army for Operation Sindoor. He also added that the Indian team will try to make the country proud.

“Good win. There is still a lot of cricket left in this tournament. This match was important as we wanted to show solidarity with the victims and their families and what they went through during that Pahalgam attack”, he said.

“More importantly, we want to thank the Indian Army for their successful Operation Sindoor. We will try to make our country proud and happy,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side highly dominated Pakistan in the encounter. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Axar Patel demolished Pakistan’s batting, sharing six wickets among them.

Key Pakistan batters lost their wickets cheaply. With 40 runs by Sahibzada Farhan and a crucial 33 runs by Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan piled up 127/9 in the first innings. Later, opener Abhishek Sharma gave a stunning start to India’s batting, smacking 31 runs off 13 balls.

Skipper Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 47 runs to power the team to victory by seven wickets. Kuldeep Yadav, who picked a three-wicket haul, was adjudged Player of the Match.
