Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the Sydney test of The Ashes 2025-26 due to a hamstring injury.

England Cricket Team have suffered a big blow ahead of the fifth and final test of The Ashes 2025-26 against Australia Cricket Team as their pacer Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the clash. The right-arm pacer will miss the game due to a hamstring injury.

Atkinson featured in the fourth test at Melbourne Cricket Ground, which England won by four wickets. He sustained the injury on the second day of the match and left the field and did’t return. After the clash, the scans confirmed a left hamstring injury to the England pacer.

This is the third blow to England’s bowling unit in The Ashes, as Mark Wood and Jofra Archer were also ruled out earlier. Wood was ruled out after the second test in Brisbane due to a knee injury, while Archer was ruled out after the third test in Adelaide due to a side strain. England have not named any replacement for Atkinson for the final game.

The fifth test will commence on Sunday, January 4, at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. Australia have already won the five-match series after winning the first three games in a row. The hosts won the first two games by eight wickets respectively, followed by an 82-run victory in the third game to retain the urn.

However, England made a fabulous comeback in the fourth test, crushing Steve Smith & Co. by four wickets in the low-scoring thriller. The clash concluded within two days, with neither side crossing the 200-run mark across four innings.

In the second innings, the visitors chased down a 175-run target, with crucial knocks by Zak Crawley (37), Ben Duckett (34), and Jacob Bethel (40). Atkinson picked a total of three wickets in the clash, while Josh Tongue was adjudged Player of the Match for his seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Notably, Atkinson failed to make a mark with his bowling across three games, picking six wickets at an average of 47.33.
