Michael Hussey won IPL twice under the leadership of MS Dhoni in CSK.
The former Australia great, Michael Hussey, in his conversation with Michael Vaughan and Phil Tufnell on the Overlap Cricket Podcast, spilt the beans about the secret behind MS Dhoni’s phenomenal success with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Hussey, who has scored more than 12000 runs for Australia in international cricket, has been a part of two IPL-winning campaigns for CSK. He did not leave the Chennai camp even after he hung up his boots and has been serving as the batting coach of the franchise for a while now.
“Dhoni is just the most amazing guy” – Michael Hussey

Michael Hussey talked about the team culture at CSK and how instrumental MS Dhoni’s role is in creating an atmosphere that helps players thrive in a tournament that has a billion eyeballs.
“Dhoni is just the most amazing guy,” said Hussey.
Discussing how Dhoni’s room is the hotspot for players to gel together, Hussey said,
“His room is available open 24 hours a day. Anyone can go up there and just sit. He has got his lounge room, players just sit around, they start talking cricket, some of them like the shisha, you know, the flavoured tobacco stuff. That is their way of socialising. Credit to Dhoni, he opens his room up — lots of players go up, they bring food up, it is fantastic.”

Michael Hussey talks MS Dhoni’s preparation

Mike Hussey also discussed how Dhoni prepares for a match, which includes more focus on his batting and almost no time with the gloves.
“I think the only time I’ve seen him catch a ball was when we wanted to knock in a new pair of gloves. I’ve never seen him practise his keeping ever,” said the former Australian international.
“But he bats a long, long time — he hits thousands and thousands of balls,” said Hussey, revealing the secret behind Dhoni’s explosive batting in the death overs, which is a menace to opposition bowlers.
The fans cannot wait to watch Dhoni’s magic again in CSK colours in IPL 2026, which might be his last season.
