Australia Defeat South Africa by 3 wickets in the semi-final 2 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Australia have fixed their World Cup final date with India at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Five-time World Cup champions will have another go at the cricket’s most prestigious title. Australia prevailed through a tight run chase at Eden Gardens in Kolkata against South Africa and defeated the Proteas by 3 wickets in semi-final 2.

It was a close encounter reminiscent of the iconic 1999 World Cup semi-final played at Edgbaston. Australian openers set the tone for the chase with a blistering 60 runs opening stand, but somehow South Africa managed to get back in the game with Keshav Maharaj (1/24) and Tabraiz Shamsi (2/42). They brought South Africa back in the game but they couldn’t hold on to the momentum.

Earlier in the innings, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood bowled a brilliant opening spell to bring down South Africa to 24 for 4 in 13 overs. Quinton De Kock (3), Temba Bavuma (0), Aiden Markram (10), and Rassie van der Dussen (6) all perished early. David Miller went on to play a magical knock to score his 6th ODI century. Miller with his knock of 101 runs took South Africa’s total to 212.

Chasing the target, Australia had a magnificent start as Travis Head (62) and David Warner (29) added 60 runs in the first 6 overs. Later on, Maharaj and  Shamsi’s superb spell brought tensions in the Australian camp. Steve Smith (30) and Josh Inglis (28) had a decent stand for the 6th wicket. Pat Cummins finished the game with a 4 to help Australia qualify for their 8th World Cup final.
