In the round-robin format, all teams will play one match against all other participating teams, making it nine games each for every team. After the conclusion of the group stage, the top four teams in the points table will go through to the semi-finals.

The hosts, India, will kick-off their campaign against five-time champions, Australia on Sunday, 8th October at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While they will play Afghanistan in their next match and then face the arch-rivals Pakistan.

India unbeaten against Pakistan in ICC Cricket World Cup so far:

India have so far remained unbeaten against Pakistan in ODI Cricket World Cup events. The arch-rivals have faced each others seven times since 1992 and India have been victorious in all of the matches. In 1992, India defeated Pakistan by four runs in Sydney. In 1996, where the infamous duel between Venkatesh Prasad and Aamer Sohail happened, India won the game by 39 runs in the quarter-final clash.

Coming to 1999, Venkatesh Prasad starred again for India, as he took a five-for and helped India defeat their arch-rivals by 47 runs in the group stage match in Manchester. In 2003, Sachin Tendulkar with his masterclass innings of 98 runs off 75 deliveries, helped India chase down 274 and win the game by 6 wickets.

Next, India faced Pakistan in the semi-final of 2011 World Cup in Mohali. Once again, Sachin Tendulkar, but with luck by his side this time, was India's top-scorer of the match, which India won by 29 runs. In 2015, Virat Kohli's century paved the way for India defeating Pakistan by 76 runs at the MCG in Melbourne.

The last time India faced Pakistan in an ODI World Cup match was in the last edition in 2019, where Rohit Sharma's century and Kuldeep Yadav's spell helped India crush Pakistan by a huge margin of 89 runs (D/L) method.

It will be interesting to see if India can continue their winning streak over Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup and beat them again when they meet on Saturday, 14th October.
