ICC WTC final, AUS vs IND: Reserve day rules explained
There is a reserve day if it rains during the ICC WTC final 2023 between India and Australia.
After two years of intense test cricket, we are just one game away from finding out new World's test champions. The final of the World Test Championship 2023 will see India and Australia square off with each other at the Oval between June 7 and 11. The defending champions, New Zealand, didn't qualify, which means a new champion will be crowned in the longest format.
Just like the last edition, England were chosen to host the final game. It will be a big challenge for both teams because playing in English conditions with Duke balls can be a big hurdle to overcome for the batters from both teams. Adding to that, the overcast conditions in England might also come into play. However, the biggest challenge will be the rain. Notably, rain had quite an effect on the WTC Final in 2021 between India and New Zealand. It resulted in the reserve day being used, and the game went to the sixth day.
Check out the reserve day rule for the upcoming WTC Final 2023 between India and Australia:
Rain is always a big challenge during the summer in England. And we might see rain play spoilsport in the upcoming mega-clash for the ICC WTC final. However, as per the rule, there is a reserve day allotted for the game, if rain makes an effect during the game. As everyone saw during the final of the 2023 Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Rain didn't allow any proceeding on the scheduled day, which pushed the final to reserve day.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has allotted June 12 as reserve day for the ICC WTC final. But there are some criterias that should be met to utilize the reserve day. As per the rule, a total of 30 hours are allotted to complete a test match, which comes to around six hours a day or 90 overs in a complete day. If none of these two scenario happen, then the reserve day will come into play.
However, in case there is no rain for five days and still the game ended without any result, then there will be no reserve day rule. In the event of a draw, both teams will be joint winners of the WTC 2023. The live streaming for the final can be enjoyed on the Disney + Hotstar and For TV viewers, fans can watch the telecast on Star Sports Network channels.
