Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
IND vs AUS: Indian Cricket Team playing 11 for 2nd test against Australia, Adelaide, BGT 2024-25 - Predicted
The second IND vs AUS test will be a day-night test starting on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide.
After being embarrassed at home at the hands of New Zealand, the Indian cricket team turned to the first test against Australia without Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Mohammed Shami. But, Jasprit Bumrah and his men produced a memorable performance in Perth.
India registered their biggest win in Australia by 295 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025.
The second test is scheduled to start on December 6 at Adelaide Oval, which will be a day-night test.
India are going to get strengthened for the second test as captain Rohit has joined the team and Gill is expected to be fit.
Let us see what changes India could to their XI and predict the side for the second IND vs AUS test in Adelaide.
IND vs AUS: Indian Cricket Team playing 11 for 2nd test against Australia, Adelaide, BGT 2024-25 – Predicted
1. Rohit Sharma (c)
Rohit Sharma joined the squad in Perth and hit the nets while the match was going in. Being the captain, he will be the first name on the playing XI sheet. He is expected be back as an opener, and KL Rahul would then slot at No. 3 or in the middle-order.
Rohit had a woeful series against New Zealand. He would hope to bounce back to form on a good batting surface in Adelaide.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal arrived in Australia with a bang. He got out for a duck in first innings of the Perth test, but plundered a brilliant century in the second innings that set the tone for India’s huge match-winning total.
The southpaw will be eager to get back on the field and give India another great start. But it will be challenging as the pink ball swings considerably.
3. Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill missed the Perth test after injuring his thumb during practice. But he is likely to get fit in time for the Adelaide test and should take back his No. 3 spot from Devdutt Padikkal, who didn’t have a great game in Perth.
Gill has done well at the No. 3 spot after taking it from Pujara: he averages 42 in his new position in 14 tests with three tons.
4. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli in Australia is a different beast altogether. He has now seven test centuries on Australian soil, and his hundred in Perth must have given him the confidence he seemed to had lacked during the home season.
His form will be crucial because day-night tests are hard for batters, and not many from the current Indian batting order have the experience of playing such games. He scored a fine half-century in the day-night test at the same venue on the previous tour. The team would be expecting another good knock from him in Adelaide.
5. KL Rahul
KL Rahul was the unsung hero in India’s win over Australia in Perth. He played brilliantly in both innings and soaked up the pressure while facing the new ball at the top. But with Rohit’s return, he will be back in the middle-order, a position he’s done well since his move last year.
Rahul’s return in the middle-order would add more stability, and would give license to the the free-flowing Rishabh Pant to take down Nathan Lyon.
6. Rishabh Pant (wk)
Rishabh Pant recently became the most expensive player in IPL history, but that is unlikely to affect his mindset during the BGT 2024-25.
He is India’s X-factor in the middle order in the test side, and his runs will be crucial once again. Australian bowlers are under pressure after the Perth defeat, and he can add more to their misery with his counter-attacking knocks.
7. Washington Sundar
It was a big call to drop Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in Perth and pick Washington Sundar in the playing XI. India wanted an off-spinner in their side to turn the ball away from Australia’s several left-handers, and Sundar has been in a better form than Ashwin. These factors got him the nod over the two veteran spinners.
In the day-night test, India would want a control on the run rate from Sundar to allow the rotation of pacers. He could also contribute decently with the bat.
8. Nitish Kumar Reddy
The pink ball is known to help the pacers under lights in day-night tests. That is why Nitish Kumar Reddy is expected to get another game.
He had a pretty good debut match and scored vital runs in both innings and also dismissed Mitchell Marsh with the ball in Australia’s second innings. Nitish gives India a great balance by being the fourth seamer and also an additional batter.
9. Jasprit Bumrah
In Perth, Jasprit Bumrah did what he is known for and rattled Australian batters by picking eight wickets in the game for only 72 runs. He deservedly won the Player of the Match award, and he will be the biggest threat for Australia again in Adelaide.
He did some incredible things in Perth. It would be thrilling to see him bowl with the pink ball, which tends to do a lot more than the traditional red balls.
10. Harshit Rana
Harshit Rana had a superb debut test in Perth. He supported Bumrah impressively. He took four wickets in the game, including rattling Travis Head’s stumps for his maiden wicket, and kept the pressure on from his end.
That has certainly earned him another game. He is a tall guy who bowls hard lengths. Rana could produce another impactful performance in the 2nd IND vs AUS test.
11. Mohammed Siraj
Just like a few other Indian players, Mohammed Siraj also entered the Perth test with below-par performances in the recent past. But, he stepped up and proved how much of a threat he can be in seaming conditions.
Siraj ended with five wickets in the game and bowled tight lines and lengths without giving much width to the Australian batters. India would want Siraj to carry on his Perth test performance to the 2nd IND vs AUS test in Adelaide.
