England need 536 runs while India need seven wickets to win the IND vs ENG test at Edgbaston.
The ongoing second test between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham is poised at a very interesting point. England, set 608 runs to win the test and go 2-0 up, will need 536 more runs with seven wickets in hand on final day of the match.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025’s second test saw India batting first after losing the toss and posting 587 runs in the first innings. India captain Shubman Gill starred with 269 runs, the highest by an Indian captain and the highest at this ground by a visiting batter.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (87), Ravindra Jadeja (89), and Washington Sundar (42) were the other contributors. England replied with 407 runs, thanks mainly to the 303-run partnership between Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184*), while there were six ducks by other batters. Mohammed Siraj picked 6/40 and Akash Deep took 4 wickets for India.

Then India piled on more runs in the second innings, scoring 427/6d, with Shubman Gill top-scoring again with 161, while KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja scored fifties as well. This helped India set a 608-run target for England to chase.
England finished day 4 on 72/3 with 536 runs more needed on day 5.
IND vs ENG: Final day forecast for the second test, Edgbaston, Birmingham
The final day of the second match between India and England is set to be an interesting one with the hosts needing 536 runs to win the game and India needing seven wickets to win and go 1-1 in the series.
There are chances of rain flooding away India’s chances of an amazing win on day five. Between days four and five, there was rain in Birmingham overnight, and it is predicted to continue into the morning.
Wet weather could likely impact Birmingham’s first half of the day, with a 50–30% chance of rain from 10 AM to 2 PM (local time), according to the UK Met Office department. The Met department has forecast that “heavy rain will change to overcast by lunchtime,” with less than 10% probability of rain after 3 p.m.
The ground crew will have a busy morning as they scramble to make sure as much play as feasible is possible throughout the day, as there is a 90% probability of rain at 9 AM, one hour before play is scheduled to start at Edgbaston, according to BBC Weather.
At 10 AM, it drops to 65%, and in the hours that follow, it keeps falling to 45% and below. This suggests that the day may get off to a wet start, with each over lost being a painful one for India and one that brings the hosts closer to survival.
However, it falls to 20% chance around 2 PM, meaning the final 4 hours of play should go ahead uninterrupted, and present India a chance to seal a famous late win if they can squeeze enough overs in.
