IND vs ENG: Needs to be patient with Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, says Vikram Rathour

Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour opened up on under-fire batsmen Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.
Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer failed to convert their starts into a big score against England in the first test played in Hyderabad. Indian opener Gill looked uncomfortable against the English spin bowling attack at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Iyer also lost his wicket due to poor application against left-arm spinner Jack Leach in the second innings. Indian middle-order had collapsed while chasing a target in the Hyderabad test.
Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour looked confident about the middle-order batsmen Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. Rathour has backed both of the under-fire Indian batters and said that they need to be given a longer run and management needs to be patient with the youngsters. Team India had a decent start in the second innings. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 42 runs for the first wicket. Soon after Jaiswal’s dismissal, Gill departed on a second ball duck.
Vikram Rathour opens up about Indian batters approach
Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour is hopeful that youngsters like Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal will eventually start getting big runs. Rathour said, “There are young batters in our team who have not played much Test cricket. So, we need to be a bit patient with them. Batters like (Shubman) Gill, (Yashasvi) Jaiswal and (Shreyas) Iyer will eventually start getting big runs, I’m sure of it.”
Vikram Rathour has also urged youngsters to play with intent but with a little caution. Rathour added, “There’s a difference between playing with intent and playing attacking cricket. I want them to play with intent. If there is the opportunity to score some runs, they should take it. They need to decide by looking at the surface and conditions. So, the batters need to possess that intelligence.”
Indian batters fell short of the target by just 28 runs in the Hyderabad test. England dismissed India for 202 runs while the hosts were chasing 231 in the fourth innings. Vikram Rathour also expressed that Indian batters could have batted with more discipline in the second Innings. England currently lead the five-match test series against India 1-0. The second test will be played at ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam which starts on Friday.
