Year-Ender 2024: Top 5 Indian batsmen with most test runs in 2024
Two Indian batsmen piled up over 800 runs in 2024 in test cricket.
The Indian cricket team had a great start to their year in test cricket with a win in Cape Town followed by a 4-1 home test series win against England.
They then thrashed Bangladesh but then suffered a humiliating, historic 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand, which ended their 12-year series-winning streak at home.
India started the BGT 2024-25 with a bumper win in Perth but got outplayed in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
The pitches on which India played test cricket this year were generally favoring the bowlers – spinners at home and pacers away. Yet, a few Indian batsmen did well, with the standout performer of the year for India with the bat being a youngster.
Let’s see the top Indian batsmen with the most test runs in 2024.
5. Ravindra Jadeja – 527 runs
Normally being in the headlines for his performances with the ball, Ravindra Jadeja had a good year with the bat as well.
In 18 innings, the left-hander scored 527 runs at an average of 31 with one century and three fifties. Jadeja hit a century against England at Rajkot, but his most important knock was 77 against Australia at the Gabba, which helped India save the test match.
4. Rishabh Pant – 576 runs
It is a testament to Rishabh Pant’s ability as a test batsman that despite missing the first half of the year while recovering from the injuries that he’d sustained in the car crash in December 2022, he finished in the top five Indian batsmen with the most test runs in 2024.
In nine tests, Pant scored 576 runs at an average of 36 with three fifties and one century. He cracked a century in his comeback test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
3. Rohit Sharma – 619 runs
India captain Rohit Sharma had a terrific series at home against England but otherwise, he’s struggled for even decently-long knocks.
In 2024, Rohit scored 619 test runs at an average of only 24.76 with two centuries, both against England, and two fifties. He has been in a poor form since the Bangladesh test series.
2. Shubman Gill – 866 runs
In 2024, Shubman Gill cemented his spot at India’s new No. 3. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the England test series and hit a century in Chennai against Bangladesh as well. After that, against New Zealand and Australia, Gill got a few starts but failed to convert it into big knocks.
Gill scored 866 runs in 2024 in 12 tests at an average of 43 and finished as India’s second-highest scorer this year. He notched up three centuries and three fifties.
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 1478 runs
Yashasvi Jaiswal finished as India’s highest test run-scorer in 2024 and the second-highest in the world. The left-handed opener amassed 1478 runs in 15 tests at an average of 54.74 with three centuries and nine fifties.
Jaiswal was the leading run-scorer during the home test series against England, where he scored 712 runs with the help of two double centuries. Against Australia in Perth, he cracked a terrific knock of 161.
Jaiswal hit the three highest scores by an Indian batsman in tests in 2024.
