Three Indian bowlers took more than 40 wickets in test cricket in 2024.

The Indian test team has had its highs and lows in 2024. While they started the year with a test match win in Cape Town and followed it up with a 4-1 home series win over England, later in the year, their home legacy was tainted with a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand.

In between this, they comfortably beat Bangladesh 2-0 at home.

India then recorded a memorable victory at Perth against Australia, but were outplayed in Adelaide and Brisbane, Melbourne.

India’s spinners and pacers all used the conducive playing conditions to pick up a truck load of wickets, both at home and away.

In this article, we will see the five Indian bowlers with the most test wickets in 2024.

Top 5 Indian bowlers with most test wickets in 2024:

5. Kuldeep Yadav – 22

Kuldeep Yadav played five tests this year, against England and New Zealand, before missing the Australia tour due to an injury.

In five tests, he took 22 wickets at an average of 23 with a best bowling figures of 5/72, which came against England at Dharamsala.

4. Mohammed Siraj – 35

Mohammed Siraj played 13 tests in 2024 and took 35 wickets at an average of 30. Siraj started the year with a bang, blowing away South Africa with a spell of 6/15. But after that, his form tapered off.

He couldn’t do much at home against England, Bangladesh and New Zealand but was effective in patches in Australia.

2. Ravi Ashwin – 47

Despite the New Zealand test series being one of his worst at home, Ravi Ashwin finished 2024 with 47 test wickets and retired from international cricket midway through the BGT 2024-25, where he featured in one out of the first three tests.

Ashwin, as usual, played a crucial role in India’s home series wins over England and Bangladesh. He recorded three five-fors this year against those two oppositions.

2. Ravindra Jadeja – 48

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 48 test wickets in 2024 in 12 tests at an average of 24 with three five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match haul.

Jadeja bagged two five-wicket hauls in the Wankhede test against New Zealand, but it went in vain as India lost the test match. His best bowling performance this year was 5/44 against England in Rajkot.

1. Jasprit Bumrah – 71 wickets

Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler in international cricket and test cricket in 2024. Bumrah finished as India’s and world’s highest test wicket-taker in 2024 with 71 wickets in 13 tests at an average of 14.92 and bagged five five-wicket hauls.

Three of his five-fors were six-wicket hauls, one each against England, South Africa and Australia, in three different continents.

In the Perth test, he led India from the front with a stellar show with the ball as India won the test by 295 runs despite being bowled out for 150 in their first innings.
