IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 36 between RCB & KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders are finally back to winning ways in the IPL 2023 after four consecutive losses.
Kolkata Knight Riders young and upcoming leg-spinner Suyash Sharma put the brakes on Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bandwagon cruising for the third consecutive win. KKR defeated RCB by 21 runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. KKR spinners bowled magical spells under lights in Bengaluru to defend their 200 runs total. Suyash Sharma in his 4 overs conceded 30 runs and picked up 2 opening wickets in the powerplay. Varun Chakravarthy in the middle chipped in with his 3/27 spell.
Put into bat first, KKR openers Jason Roy (56) and N. Jagadeesan (27) had a good start and added 83 for the first wicket. This set up the tone and KKR batters continued to add runs in partnerships. Venkatesh Iyer (31) and captain Nitish Rana (48) chipped in nicely with Rinku Singh (18) and David Wiese (12) with their power hitting gave RCB 201 runs to chase. Apart from Virat Kohli nobody looked comfortable and RCB kept losing their wickets. Virat scored 54 runs in 37 balls with 6 fours.

Kolkata Knight Riders with a stunning win over Royal Challengers Bangalore have moved up in the points table by earning 2 points. Kolkata are now 7th in the table with 6 points in their 8 games. They have defeated RCB twice this season. Bangalore on the other hand had moved down one place and currently, they are 6th with 8 points. Chennai Super Kings are top of the table with 10 points in 7 games. Delhi Capitals with only 4 points are 10th in the table. Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants are the other teams in the Top 4.

It is all about Royal Challengers Bangalore in the top 2 of the orange cap race. RCB Captain Faf Du Plessis is leading the orange cap race with 422 runs in 8 innings. Faf Du Plessis scored 17 runs in 7 balls with four and 2 sixes against Kolkata Knight Riders. Their stand-in Captain Virat Kohli is 2nd on the list with 333 runs. He played a brilliant knock of 54 runs in 37 balls yet he could not get RCB over the line against KKR. Chennai’s Devon Conway is 3rd on the list with 314 runs in 7 innings. Delhi’s skipper David Warner is 4th with 306 runs. KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer has made his entry back in the top 5 with his 31 runs inning and he is now 5th on the list with 285 runs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore leader in the pace attack, Mohammed Siraj is back as purple cap holder. Siraj bowled a crushing Yorker to Andre Russell in his final over to pick up his 14th wicket in the IPL 2023. He has overtaken Titans' leg-spinner Rashid Khan with a better economy rate in the tournament. Rashid also has 14 wickets and is 2nd in the Purple Cap race. Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh is 3rd in the top wicket-takers list with 13 wickets in 7 games. KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy is 4th with 13 wickets as well. Chakravarthy picked up 3 wickets against RCB. Rajasthan’s Yuzvendra Chahal is 5th with 12 wickets

It will be the second reverse fixture in the IPL 2023. Chennai Super Kings will be taking on Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Chennai Super Kings are currently top in the league's points table with 10 points in 7 games. Rajasthan Royals are also not far from the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. RR with two back-to-back losses have slipped to 3rd place in the table with 8 points in 7 games. Royals had defeated Chennai Super Kings by a close margin of 3 runs in their meet earlier in the tournament. Sandeep Sharma bowled a magnificent final over against MS Dhoni.
