Gujarat Titans (GT) bought a total of 8 players in the IPL 2024 auction.
Before the IPL 2024 auction, the Gujarat Titans aimed to strengthen their team by adding 8 players to the squad for the upcoming season, with a specific focus on including 2 overseas players. They decided to retain 17 players from the previous season, including 6 overseas players. Ahead of the auction, a notable move was the trade of their captain, Hardik Pandya, to the Mumbai Indians. Subsequently, the Gujarat Titans announced Shubman Gill as the new captain.
With a substantial budget of 38.15 crore, the Gujarat Titans efficiently and strategically utilized their funds during the auction. They bought the likes of Spencer Johnson, Shahrukh Khan, Umesh Yadav, Robin Minz, Sushant Mishra, Kartik Tyagi, Azmatullah Omarzai and Manav Suthar.

During the group stage of IPL 2023, GT displayed outstanding form, winning 10 out of 14 league matches and claiming the top spot in the league stage. Although they faced a setback in Qualifier 1 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Titans rebounded strongly in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI), securing a thrilling victory and earning a spot in the final. However, in the final showdown against CSK, despite a closely contested match that went down to the last ball, the Titans fell short and lost by 5 wickets (DLS), missing out on back-to-back IPL titles.
In the 2023 IPL season, Shubman Gill emerged as the standout batsman for the Gujarat Titans, earning the prestigious Orange Cap for being the tournament’s highest run-scorer. Gill showcased extraordinary talent and remarkable batting skills, accumulating a phenomenal total of 890 runs in 17 matches. His outstanding performance included 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries, with an impressive batting average of 59.33. Gill’s highest score in the tournament was an impressive 129 runs, and he maintained a remarkable strike rate of 157.80, highlighting his ability to score quickly and decisively.
On the bowling front, Mohammed Shami played a pivotal role for the Gujarat Titans in the 2023 IPL season, securing the Purple Cap as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. Shami’s exceptional skills were evident throughout the tournament, where he took a total of 28 wickets in 17 matches. Additionally, Shami maintained an impressive economy rate of 8.03, showcasing his ability to control the run flow while consistently picking up crucial wickets.
