IPL 2025: List of all players retained and released by RCB

Virat Kohli has been retained for INR 21 crores by RCB for IPL 2025.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have submitted their retained players’ list for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, and the first name on the list is the most expected: Virat Kohli. Not only that, according to reports, the 35-year-old could return as the captain of the franchise next year, taking over the leadership duties from Faf du Plessis, who is 40 years old and hasn’t been retained.

Apart from Kohli, though, none of the other players were certain to be retained. One name that would have been retained was Cameron Green. But, since the Australian all-rounder has recently undergone back surgery and is likely to opt out of the IPL 2025 season, he has been released too.

Glenn Maxwell was a captaincy candidate, but his torrid form in IPL 2024, during which he scored only 52 runs in 10 matches and was also dropped from the XI, meant that he is unlikely to have a certain slot in the playing XI next season.

In IPL 2024, RCB qualified for the playoffs miraculously. They had a horrendous first half of the league stage, losing seven out of their first eight games. However, they bounced back with six wins on a trot and qualified for the playoffs by beating Chennai Super Kings in their last league match. They lost the Eliminator, though, to Rajasthan Royals.

RCB have not reached an IPL final since 2016 even though they have qualified for the playoffs in four of the last five seasons.
