IPL 2025: 3 players who can replace Ruturaj Gaikwad in CSK squad for remainder of the season

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to elbow fracture.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are going through a tough time as they have lost four of their first five games in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. And now, just ahead of their next game of the tournament, their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of remainder of the tournament due to an elbow injury.
It has certainly come as a big blow to the franchise, who are desperate to keep their hopes alive this season. Gaikwad has been the “Mr. Consistent” at the top order for his side team since quite a few years now. His absence as captain might not hurt CSK that much as they have MS Dhoni to don the captain’s hat, but his absence as a batter will surely hurt them.
Although Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda are on the bench, there are chances that CSK will search for an ideal replacement as they still have nine league stage games left to play. On that note, let’s take a look at three batsmen who can be ideal replacement of Gaikwad in CSK squad for this season. Notably, CSK can only rope in an Indian cricketer, who went unsold at the auction, as replacement.
Three players who can replace Ruturaj Gaikwad in CSK squad for remainder of the IPL 2025
1. Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw is one of the dynamic Indian top-order batters who has loads of experience playing in the IPL. Having spent seven seasons with Delhi Capitals, he was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Unfortunately, he went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction with his base price of INR 75 lakhs.
Can he be the right choice? Just like Gaikwad, Shaw is also a top-order batter who is very aggressive. With CSK needing an aggressive batter, Shaw can provide them that option at the top. He has scored 1892 runs in 79 IPL games at a strike rate of 147.46.
2. Mayank Agarwal
Former Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal was once regarded as one of the finest Indian batters in the IPL. He still holds the record for the third-fastest IPL century by an Indian batter. But his declining form cost him his place in the IPL. He was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad before the auction and remained unsold at the event.
He is another stylish right-hand top-order batter, who is very good. Agarwal has played 127 IPL games and scored 2661 runs with one century and 13 half-centuries. He is doing well at the domestic level and can be a good replacement.
3. Sarfaraz Khan
The 27-year-old batter from Mumbai, Sarfaraz Khan, is another player who can be looked up to. He is a great player of spin and has scored tons of runs at the domestic level. Sarfaraz was unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction with his base price of INR 30 lakhs.
He is a run-machine in domestic cricket and has had a good start to his test career. He is a naturally aggressive player, who has played for three different teams in the IPL so far. Hence, he can be another choice if CSK are looking for a replacement for Gaikwad.
