Ishan Kishan slammed a century in his first outing in the Buchi Babu tournament.
Jharkhand’s wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is likely to miss the first match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to an injury.
Kishan is part of the Shreyas Iyer-led Team D of the Duleep Trophy 2024. There are four teams in this competition and each side will play three four-day games. The first round of matches will get underway on September 5.
Team D’s first match is against Team C in Anantapur, starting Thursday.
The Duleep Trophy will mark the beginning of BCCI’s domestic season. Recently, Kishan played in the Buchi Babu tournament, which is not recognized as a national competition, in Tamil Nadu. The southpaw slammed a thunderous century against Madhya Pradesh and remained unbeaten on 41 in the second innings, helping his side to a win.
However, in the next match against Hyderabad, Kishan managed two single-digit scores.
Samson to replace injured Kishan for the first round in Duleep Trophy
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Kishan has withdrawn from the first match of the Duleep Trophy due to an injury, the nature and extent of which is not yet known. Further, his participation in the next two games is also unclear.
He is likely to be replaced by Sanju Samson, who was initially not named in any of the four squads.
This absence from the first match of the Duleep Trophy has dented Kishan’s chances of returning to the test setup. He had skipped the December-January tour of South Africa for personal reasons and then was omitted from the home series against England during which he also lost his BCCI central contract for not playing domestic cricket last season despite being asked to.
Against England, Dhruv Jurel impressed with match-winning performances. Rishabh Pant will mark his comeback to red-ball cricket with the Duleep Trophy and will be eyeing a return to the test side with the upcoming home series against Bangladesh. KL Rahul is another candidate as a wicket-keeper batsman that India have.
