'I was not invited for the final' Kapil Dev makes a sensational claim after not being invited for IND vs AUS CWC 2023
Kapil Dev led India for the first-ever World Cup title in 1983.
Team India had a tough outing with the bat against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. A dry wicket in Ahmedabad is providing fans with a chance to witness a challenging, low-scoring game in the World Cup finals. A batting-friendly tournament witnessed only 13 fours and 3 sixes in the first 50 overs of the big final clash. India could only manage to post 240 runs on the board.
Team India are chasing their third World Cup title, as they have won the mega event twice in history. India, under Kapil Dev, won their first-ever World Cup title in 1983. Now, former Indian captain Kapil Dev has made a sensational claim that he was not invited to the captain’s felicitation ceremony at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad that was scheduled to take place in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia.
Kapil Dev’s sensational claim
In an interaction with ABP News on the World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia, Kapil Dev, when asked about his presence in Ahmedabad, revealed that he was not invited for it. Kapil said, “I wasn’t invited. They didn’t call me, so I did not go. As simple as that. I wanted the whole ’83 team to be there with me, but I guess because it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget.”
Since Kapil’s statement on social media is going viral, the BCCI and ICC are facing backlash over snubbing India’s one of the greatest sportspersons ever. A lot of guests are present to watch the World Cup final in Ahmedabad from different fields, but it is ironic to witness as one of India’s finest captains was not present to watch India play in a World Cup final. Kapil Dev won the tournament in 1983 and defeated the mighty West Indians in the final at Lord’s.
Team India made a roaring comeback in the finals after a dismal day in the batting. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Steve Smith (4) and Mitchell Marsh (15), while Mohammed Shami sent David Warner (7) back into the dressing room inside the first powerplay. India posted 240 runs on the board with the help of a fine innings from KL Rahul. Indian wicket-keeper scored 66 runs on 107 balls with just one four in the innings.
