Gautam Gambhir has now lost four tests at home as a coach.
Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has come down heavily on current India head coach Gautam Gambhir after the Shubman Gill-led side faced a humiliating 30-run defeat at home in Kolkata at the hands of South Africa.
India failed to chase 124 runs on day three on the pitch at Eden Gardens and was shot out for 93 as Simon Harmer starred with four wickets in each inning. Despite the poor batting, Gautam Gambhir boldly claimed that this was the kind of pitch that Indian team management wanted and blamed the Indian batters for not applying themselves for the defeat.
Former India cricketer and former chief selector Kris Srikkanth has criticized the India coach for his ridiculous evaluation of the pitch after hearing Gautam Gambhir support it at the Eden.
Even I would get a wicket: Kris Srikkanth slams Gautam Gambhir’s defense of the Kolkata pitch

The former India opener claimed that there were numerous issues with the wicket and that even he could have taken wickets if he had adhered to a line on such a pitch.
“This is a horrible record at home. We are playing with full-fledged sides. Gautam Gambhir said this is the wicket we asked for, but this is not the wicket you should be playing Test cricket on. The ball has been turning from the first day. We have been doing this for many years and have not learning from the mistakes. Everything is wrong with this wicket. Even if I bowled stump to stump on this track, I would get a wicket,” Srikkanth said via his YouTube channel.
Srikkanth went on to say that both teams had a terrible time scoring runs or even feeling comfortable batting on such a pitch. The Chennai native believes that the Indians are under tremendous pressure to salvage the series after giving up the test match because of their strategy and mentality.
“This is a crappy track. You cannot say that you need to apply yourselves on such a crappy track. If not one team is scoring more runs, how can it be a good wicket? He is talking absurd things. Everybody is struggling. Both teams were struggling. Whether he is under pressure or not, I don’t know, but India is under pressure now,” Srikkanth concluded.
India and South Africa will now clash in the second and final test in Guwahati from November 22 onwards. South Africa last won a test series in India in 1999-2000 under the captaincy of Hansie Cronje.
