Mitchell Starc recently announced his retirement from T20I cricket.
Australia pacer Mitchell Starc revealed that he forgot to inform T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh about his decision to retire from T20I cricket. He also said that Marsh came to know about his retirement news from Instagram.
Mitchell Starc pulled down curtains on his T20I career on September 2. The left-arm pacer played 65 T20Is for Australia from 2012 to 2024, clinching 79 wickets at an economy of 7.74. He was also part of the Australia team that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Starc will continue to play in franchise T20 leagues. He will now focus on tests and ODIs and looks forward to playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.
I probably should have rang Mitchell Marsh: Mitchell Starc

During a chat with Cricket Australia, Starc revealed that he informed coach Andrew McDonald about his decision but forgot to inform Marsh.
“I did let them know, I did not ask them. I spoke to Ronnie (Andrew McDonald) and then told the two of them that I was done. Yeah, that was about it. I probably should have rang Mitchy [Mitchell Marsh],” he said.
“I felt bad because he texted me and said he found out through Instagram. So, I felt bad about that one. Sorry, Mitchy. Didn’t tell the captain,” he added.
Starc also revealed that he parted ways with T20I format because he has a lot to offer to the ODI team.
“I umm-ed and ahh-ed about which was the right (format) to put to the side. If I wasn’t going to be in the frame for 2027, then I didn’t want to hold up the spot. I still feel like I’ve got plenty to offer that ODI team,” he said.
Notably, Starc played his last T20I match in June last year against India during ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The 35-year-old will be next seen during Australia’s ODI series against India in October.
