Mohammad Kaif noted that Suryakumar Yadav-led India have only two proper all-rounders in Asia Cup 2025.
Cricketer-turned-commentator Mohammad Kaif has compared the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 with the Rohit Sharma-led team that won the ICC T20 World Cup last year. According to him, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side has fewer all-rounders, which can pose a challenge for the team.
Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and India will clash with the UAE in their opening game on September 10 in Dubai. The Men in Blue are part of Group A in the tournament alongside Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE.
They will clash with Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19 during the group stage. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong are the other four teams in the Asia Cup 2025, placed in Group B.
India will have to find a new winning combination: Mohammad Kaif on X

Kaif noted a flaw in the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The former India batter said that Rohit Sharma-led India had three powerful all-rounders in the squad- Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel.
However, the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 have only two proper all-rounders- Pandya and Axar. Hence, it will minimise the team’s bowling options and batting depth. He also added that Washington Sundar will be missed in the squad.
“Rohit’s team won the T20 World Cup with 3 all-rounders – Axar, Jadeja, Hardik – and that meant 6 proper bowling options and batting till 8. At Asia Cup, with only 2 genuine all-rounders – Hardik and Axar. – India will have to find a new winning combination. Washington Sundar will be missed”, Kaif tweeted.
Jadeja announced his retirement from T20I cricket after ICC T20 World Cup final last year. Notably, Shivam Dube is another all-rounder in India squad.
However, he lacks bowling experience and is not considered a lethal bowling option. Abhishek Sharma is another member of the Indian squad who can both bat and bowl.
