Mohammed Siraj managed to pick two wickets in the first test at Headingley, Leeds.
India had a great chance of winning the opening test of the five-match test series against England at Headingley, Leeds. But, failure of India’s lower-order batting and plenty of dropped catches took the game away from them. India scored 471 and 364 in the game and had five individual centuries.
But, the result didn’t end in their favour, and they couldn’t defend a big target of 371 runs. Trailing by 0-1, India will take on England in the second test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, which will begin on Wednesday, July 2. India are most likely to rest Jasprit Bumrah as per workload management, which will put more pressure on rest of the bowling unit.
That is when Mohammed Siraj has to step up. Siraj is the second-most experienced pacer in the current squad. With unfit Mohammed Shami not being available, Siraj has a big role to play in the ongoing tour. He didn’t look at his best in the first game and ended up with two wickets in the game. However, ahead of the second ENG vs IND test, the pacer was seen sweating hard at nets.
ENG vs IND: Mohammed Siraj sweats hard at nets to improve his batting skills ahead of the second test
Mohammed Siraj has come under a lot of criticism because of his below-average performances. However, his batting has also become a topic of discussion in recent times. Siraj loves to fight and compete on the field, always giving his 100 percent.
With India struggling with runs from tailenders, Siraj seems to have started working on his batting as well. A video of the pacer has been doing rounds on social media, in which he has been training with the bat and was seen working on his defense and facing short balls.

Meanwhile, India are in a dilemma of playing Jasprit Bumrah in the second test or not. If the visitors plan on resting him, they have to find a replacement. According to some rumours, India are even thinking of dropping Shardul Thakur from the playing XI following his poor show in the first test.
There are a few areas that India have to address before the second test begins. The top-order batting did pretty well, but the others failed. Meanwhile, England have added Jofra Archer to the squad for the second ENG vs IND test, which will only increase India’s headache.
