Dale Steyn had predicted Mohammed Siraj would pick a five-wicket haul in The Oval test.

Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn made a daring prediction the night before the fifth and final test match between England and India. Mohammed Siraj fulfilled the prophecy six days later, leading India to an incredible victory at The Oval that tied the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series at two each.

As England were dismissed for 247 in the first innings, Siraj nearly had a fifer with 4/86. However, Steyn’s prediction came true in second innings of the game as Siraj helped India dismiss England for 367 by returning 5/104.

Siraj dismissed Zak Crawley on the last ball of the third day’s 374-run chase, which was the catalyst for England’s collapse. Then, early on the fourth day, he fired Ollie Pope. However, England recovered well and came within striking distance of a historic victory at The Oval, which would have concluded the series with India losing 1-3, thanks to a 195-run partnership between Harry Brook and Joe Root for the fourth wicket. While Root made history with his 39th career ton, Brook scored a dazzling ton.

“You asked, I delivered”- Mohammed Siraj grateful for Dale Steyn’s words

On day 4, however, England were under pressure at 337/6 after Prasidh Krishna struck twice in two overs following tea.

Before sweeping aside Gus Atkinson to complete a historic victory, Siraj struck early on the last morning, dismissing Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton. The player, who was born in Hyderabad, put in a lot of effort over all five test matches and was rewarded on day 5 of the last test at The Oval.

Pacer Siraj addressed Steyn’s prediction before the game after taking five wickets to lead Team India to a historic six-run victory over England on day 5 at The Oval in London.

With the former South African pacer predicting Siraj to take a fifer before the Test, the 31-year-old responded classily on X, “You asked. I delivered. Really appreciate coming from you.”

With 23 wickets in nine innings at 32.43, Siraj also finished the series with the most wickets. Additionally, he is the only pacer from India to participate in all five of the tour’s test matches. Following India’s victory at the Oval Test, he was also named Player of the Match.
