Mohammed Siraj contradicted Travis Headâs statement following their tussle in Adelaide.
Unfortunately, Australiaâs thumping win in Adelaide, Travis Headâs blistering century, and Indiaâs embarrassing performance with the bat in both innings lost some attention to the heated exchange between Head and India seamer Mohammed Siraj.
Verbal battles like this between and bowler and a batsman both passionate towards their game have happened several times in test cricket. It indeed was even good for the game as the crowd at the Adelaide Oval, which is Headâs home ground, got into it and booed Siraj for the rest of the game, bringing more excitement to the game on and off the field.
While such altercations charge up both teams and highly entertaining, adding more spice to the contest, the manner in which it has been dragged over the last 24 hours meant that the talks around the cricket took a backseat as India got humbled with a 10-wicket loss.
What happened between Travis Head and Mohammed Siraj in Adelaide?
Having already reached his century, Head flicked Siraj for a four and a six before the pacer bowled him with a perfect yorker. Siraj celebrated animatedly, letting out his emotions in front of the batsman. Within a second, both players muttered words at each other before Siraj gestured furiously towards the dressing room. Head reacted back with more words. Some âFâ bombs were dropped too.
Who said what?
In the press conference then, Head claimed that he had said âwell bowledâ to Siraj, to which the bowler reacted with a send-off gesture.
âI actually jokingly said âwell bowled,â then he pointed me in the sheds and I had my reaction as well,â Head said.
Siraj calls out Headâs âlieâ
Then, Siraj said that Head âabusedâ him and âliedâ about his words.
Siraj said, âWhen I bowled him, I just celebrated and he abused me and you saw that on TV too. I only celebrated at the start, I didnât say anything to him. What he said in the press conference wasnât right, itâs a lie that he said âwell bowledâ to me. Itâs there for everyone to see that thatâs not what he said to me.â
âWe respect everyone, itâs not like we disrespect other players. I respect everybody because cricket is a gentlemanâs game, but what he did wasnât right. I didnât like it at all.â
How things ended?
Siraj and Head resolved their matter on day 3 of the Adelaide test. Both players were seen talking it out in the field during Indiaâs second innings. They later even shared a hug after the match. So this matter can finally be put to bed.
