India defeated Pakistan in the final of Asia Cup 2025 on September 28 in Dubai.
The president of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Mohsin Naqvi, has suggested holding a ceremony in Dubai to present the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian men’s cricket team.
Following their victory over Pakistan in the final on September 28, the Indian team declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi. Following an altercation that lasted almost an hour, Naqvi ordered the trophy removed from the stadium. The Indian captain, Suryakumar, then imitated winning the prize with his teammates.
Feeling that he was disrespected, Naqvi took the trophy with him and has locked it in the ACC office in Dubai. He has reportedly also instructed that the trophy shouldn’t be handed over to the BCCI or anyone without his permission.
Mohsin Naqvi asks India captain Suryakumar Yadav and BCCI’s Rajiv Shukla to receive the Asia Cup trophy from him in a ceremony
The Asia Cup trophy dispute doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon.
A major disagreement has arisen between the PCB and the BCCI ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting next month. Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, is demanding that India receive the Asia Cup trophy in person at a ceremony in Dubai on November 10.
According to GEO News, Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the ACC, sent a harsh email to the BCCI suggesting a ceremony in which he would give the trophy to BCCI representatives and available Indian team players.
“If you want the trophy, we can hold a ceremony where you can receive it,” Geo News reported.
“The ACC trophy rightly belongs to the Indian cricket team and is being held in trust until such time that a BCCI officeholder, along with any available participating player, can collect it from the ACC President. Such a collection would, of course, be accompanied with much fanfare and coverage, as there should be no deviation from established practices and no precedent should be set that undermines the spirit of the game we all love,” Naqvi added.
Who is Mohsin Naqvi?
Mohsin Naqvi is the president of ACC and chairman of the PCB. He also serves as a minister in Pakistan’s government.
Who won Asia Cup 2025?
