Eight batsmen scored three or more test centuries in 2024.

The year 2024 has been an exciting one in test cricket. While the initial months were dominated by the preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, test cricket took center stage in the latter half of the year.

The cricketing world witnessed entertaining performances from several young batsmen, including Harry Brook, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Kamindu Mendis.

The race for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final also heated up in the latter stages of the year, with key bilateral series like India vs England, South Africa vs Pakistan, New Zealand vs England, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 playing a pivotal role in the tournament.

Despite the increasing dominance of bowling-friendly pitches in test cricket, plenty of batsmen made their mark by scoring remarkable centuries in the format.

On that note, let’s take a look at the player who scored the most test centuries this year.

Who scored the most test centuries in 2024?

England’s Joe Root hit the most centuries in test cricket in 2024, racking up six hundreds during the year. Root’s impressive tally includes two centuries against Sri Lanka and one each against India, West Indies, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

His highest individual score this year came against Pakistan at Multan where he plundered 262 runs in the first innings to help the visitors post a daunting total of 823/7. He also stitched a 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket in the game with Harry Brook, who hammered a triple ton.

Root scored 1556 runs in 31 innings this year at an average of 55.57. Root continued on the Bazball’s aggressive playing style, maintaining a strike rate of 63.

On this list, Root is followed by Kamindu Mendis, who scored five test centuries this year. Harry Brook and Kane Williamson are next with four centuries each. Travis Head, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ollie Pope, and Shubman Gill all notched up three tons each in the longest format this year.
