Mukesh Kumar will be in Indian setup for a while, predicts Zaheer Khan

Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets in his test debut for India against West Indies at Port of Spain.

The absence of senior pros like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav prompted Team India to go with a young pace attack. A man from Bihar's Gopalganj also made his entry into the elite list of Indian test players and became the 308th cap for India. Mukesh Kumar got the opportunity in 2nd test at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.

Mukesh impressed everyone with his control in line and length. He also got two wickets to begin his test career. After looking at his performance, Former Indian pace bowler Zaheer Khan predicted that Mukesh will be part of the Indian setup for a while now.

Zaheer praises Mukesh Kumar

India's 2011 World Cup-winning hero Zaheer Khan predicted, "He looked good, There's no doubt about it. He had a good outing there in his first test match, was very composed that showed good temperament. And when you are looking at the bench strength of this Indian team, it's looking very solid. You can see and say that Mukesh Kumar going to be around in this setup for a while now".

Zaheer Khan also suggested Mukesh Kumar increase his pace, in his first test Mukesh bowled around 130 KM/h. Mukesh had control on his line and stick to the basics of fast bowling, rewarding him with two wickets.

Zaheen Khan further added, "There is no doubt about that. It's up to him how he takes things forward now from here and takes his bowling to the next level. I still felt that he needs to add that a yard or two to his pace if he has to be really successful at this level. He can take a leaf out of Siraj's book and how he has gone about doing his business".

Mukesh Kumar will also take part in the upcoming ODI and T20 series against West Indies. Mukesh played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023.
