New MI captain Hardik Pandya likely to be ruled out of 2024 season - Reports
Hardik Pandya was announced as Mumbai Indians skipper just a few weeks back.
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has not yet recovered from his ankle injury and is likely to be ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya was appointed as Mumbai Indians skipper just a week back and replaced Rohit Sharma. Hardik Pandya was brought in by Mumbai Indians in a trade deal with Gujarat Titans.
Hardik Pandya sustained an ankle injury during India’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign in India. Pandya twisted his ankle while trying to stop Litton Das’ straight drive. From there, Pandya missed the entire World Cup 2023 tournament after Bangladesh game and also remained out of action in 8 T20Is and 3 ODI games India played after the World Cup.
Hardik Pandya may miss IPL 2024
According to news agency PTI, Hardik Pandya is yet to recover completely from his injury and need some more time in rehabilitation to make comeback. India will be playing 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan scheduled to be played in January. Pandya’s absence and Suryakumar Yadav’s injury will force Indian team management to look for a new skipper once again.
News agency PTI also reported that it is very likely that all-rounder Hardik Pandya may also miss the upcoming IPL 2024 season. A BCCI source revealed, “There is no update on Hardik’s fitness status as of now and one can say there remains a big question mark of him being available before the end of IPL.” This also leaves Mumbai Indians in discussion mode once again.
Ravindra Jadeja might be given the charge of Indian T20I side that will take on Afghanistan. This will be the final international assignment for team India before ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA. Ravindra Jadeja was India’s vice-captain in recently concluded 3-match T20I series and assisted Suryakumar Yadav who got injured.
